Resolution required for various size images
Even though your images may look sharp on your screen they will only print out as sharp if they contain enough pixels for the size required.
On an average, printers print at 300 dpi (dots per inch) thus an image
measuring 1800 x 1200 pixels will print a pretty decent 6 x 4 inch photo.
All you have to do is divide 300 into the number of pixels in your image's width and height. Figures below will give you a rough guide.
Image size pixels print size in inches
@300dpi
1800 x 1200 6 x 4
2100 x 1500 7 x 5
2480 x 1748 Full A5
3000 x 2400 10 x 8
3510 x 2490 Full A4
IMPORTANT: set your camera to print at its optimum resolution. This is found within the camera's menu. You will not then be disappointed when you shoot the "perfect" image and want to display it on your wall!
